6 Tips To Master Cannabis Seedling Stage

Anyone who grows cannabis will know that the most eagerly anticipated stage of the process is harvest time. However, many inexperienced growers fail to accomplish their goals due to a lack of understanding regarding proper cannabis seedling care.

“Seedling care” is an umbrella term used to describe the ideal conditions in which marijuana seed germination can be effectuated. Brushing up on your knowledge before sowing seeds is the best way to avoid disappointment and ensure that your plants progress to a vigorous stage of vegetation.

While it is possible to grow cannabis outdoors, an indoor cultivation set-up will ensure maximum control over your seedling. Ultimately, this will help you to manage the seedling at its most delicate and vulnerable stage. Once you have your grow box, tent, a grow box, cannabis seedling starter kit, and some light, you can master the art of yielding aromatic and potent plants.

Creating the Perfect Conditions

Healthy cannabis plants all start with pristine growing conditions. With the correct setup, you can sit back and relax in the knowledge that your seeds will (hopefully) sprout into something beautiful.

A sun-spilled window, cold frame or greenhouse are good options for maintaining seedlings. It’s important to note that the seedling stage is an incredibly delicate time, which means that you need to devote a lot of tender loving care, or “TLC”, into the growing process.

Once you’ve secured the growing space, take the following tips on board:

  • Cannabis Seedling Temperature and Humidity

Moisture is the most essential factor in determining what signals seeds must receive to germinate. With that being said, the subject of temperature and humidity should not be overlooked.

Humidity levels tend to change with each growing stage. Generally, 70-90° F (20-30° C) is a suitable daytime temperature for cannabis plants, but your plant can also benefit from a temperature of 73-82° F (23-28° C).

Expect seedlings to sprout from the first day with a temperature of 80-82° F (26-28° C) and reduce the heat by 5° during the nighttime. For flowering plants, the sweet spot in terms of humidity typically ranges between 40-60%. Seedlings, on the other hand, require a little bit more humidity at 60-70%.

  • Illuminating the Cannabis Grow Space

One of the most widely misunderstood subjects regarding cannabis seedling is lighting requirements. Whereas some growers opt for natural light, others opt for artificial. Conversely, many cultivators will expose their seedlings to light even before the sprouts emerge, while others will remain patient until the initial germination is complete.

As a recommendation, put the seeds beneath a light when they start to break the surface. For the first few days, position lights approximately 4 inches (10 cm) above the potted seedlings. Consider allowing the plants some time to rest during dark hours since this will protect them from being exposed to too much stress.

While you may feel tempted to invest in potent HPS cannabis grow lights, refrain from doing so. Why? Because harsh lighting can disturb and cost you a lot of money to run! Instead, opt for weaker lights, such as LED lights, T5s, or CFLs.

  • Seedling Potting and Transfer

During the first two weeks, it is possible to grow cannabis seedlings in a soil-filled plastic cup or pot that can comfortably hold 8-10 fluid ounces (250-500 ml) of substance. You may also use Jiffy seed pellets. Once the seedling sprouts three to four leaves, take the opportunity to transfer your plants into containers that are large enough to accommodate the swelling roots.

When “rehoming” your plant, try not to pull the plant from the stem and always wear gloves to prevent contamination. Avoid watering the plants one day before transplanting since this may result in the soil getting stuck to the sides of the container. Your plant will be thirsty after the transplant, but be careful not to overwater it!

  • Watering Your Cannabis Plants

Photosynthesis and perspiration will not be possible if your cannabis seedlings don’t get enough water. Start each morning by watering the plants and make a habit of touching the surface of the soil to determine its level of dryness; when you notice that your plant pots feel light, this is an indication that the seedling needs water.

During the seedling stage, it’s a good idea to water the plants twice daily. Once the plant reaches the vegetative stage, water it once every two days. Upon noticing that your cannabis seedlings have started flowering, water the plants once every 2-3 days so as to avoid drowning them!

  • Feeding Your Weed Seedlings

If you choose to grow cannabis seedlings in nutrient-rich soil, feeding will not be necessary until the vegging stage. Typically, the vegetative stage emerges approximately two weeks after the initial sowing of the seeds. This isn’t to say that your plants won’t benefit from a sprinkling of nutrients at this time, however. Some of the essential macronutrients required by cannabis plants include nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

Soils that do not contain any nutrients, such as cocoa or hydro, can be enhanced with a 100 plant preservative mixture (PPM) solution. As time goes by, consider increasing to 400 PPM. Finally, to ensure your cannabis seedlings sprout with minimal effort, provide the pH ranges from 5.5-6.0 in hydroponics and 6.0-6.5 in soil,  You can find online companies like Zamnesia which have a diverse range of cannabis seeds, such as feminized Gelato 41, Rainbow Runtz, White Widow, etc…
