Anyone who knew Bimbo Ademoye before December 2019 and didn’t take her seriously as an actor of note must have been hit by her performance in Sugar Rush and forced to change their mind on her. Her first time her name made national waves was when she stared and was nominated for the AMVCA for her role in “Backup Wife”; there are those who first began enchanted by her role in “Looking for Baami”. But if anyone still doubted her after all these credits and years, there cannot be anyone who has seen Sugar Rush who still considers Ademoye an average star.
Well, there may as well be. Didn’t some people once consider John Legend the hottest man alive? This our generalizing intro may not work. Or, it may work because I doubt there is anyone who took the trouble to come here to read Bimbo who didn’t believe in her art. Because I doubt I am going to erase this and began afresh. Let’s do this.
Age, education, the beginning
Bimbo Ademoye was born on the 4th of February, 1991 to Mr. and Mrs. Adekunle Ademoye in Lagos. She was raised by her father as a single parent after their parents divorced and the mother remarried. Bimbo has a sister. It wasn’t easy for Bimbo growing up with her father alone as he struggled to raise her so much that she once went to live with her aunt.
Usually the loudest in a class growing up, Bimbo attended St. Margaret’s Primary School, Ikorodu, Lagos. She went on to attend Mayflower Secondary School, Ikenne, Ogun State, for her secondary education. Her university education was Covenant University, Ota, Ogun.
Bimbo Ademoye is 29 years old.
As with most actors, Bimbo was acted a lot in schools and churches. Her notice-me attitude as a child must have made it easier for teachers and minders to say, “Oya, Bimbo come and act since you won’t stop correcting Nkiru.” When she decided to become an actor, her father was in support. He was the kind of parent whose child’s opinion was the supreme. This father and daughter were so close that it was her father who took her to her first audition.

Bimbo was discovered by the scriptwriter, director, and producer Uduak Isong-Oguamanam who is the filmmaker behind the popular movie “Okon Lagos”. Bimbo’s first appearance on the screen is in the short movie “Where Talent Lies” which was made by the talented actress Eva George.
Bimbo Ademoye’s career
Bimbo Ademoye has appeared in dozens of movies. Some of her notable movies include “Girlfriends” which also has medium stars like Esosa Egbon, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Rekiyat Yusuf in the cast, “Kamsi” which was shot in Jos directed by Uzodinma Okpechi with Wole Ojo and Sam Dede in the cast, and “Personal Assistant” which has Monalisa Chinda and Bolanle Ninalowo in the stars list and for which she won her first award for Best Supporting Actress in 2018 at the Best of Nollywood Awards. Other of her movies include “Desperate Housegirls” with Ini Edo, Mary Lazarus, and Kenneth Okolie, “Gone” which stars Stella Damasus and was directed by Daniel Ademinokan, and “Last Days”.
On TV, she played a sub-major role in Africa Magic season two of “Hustle” where she was a desperate single lady with the bad luck of only getting attracted to players.
It is universally believed that the movie which shot her into stardom properly was Iroko TV’s “Backup Wife” where she played the role of a village girl who was brought in from the village to become the wife to the character of Seun Akindele whose previous wife left because he was old school. Then the hilarious drama began. For her role in this film, Bimbo was nominated for Best Actress in a comedy at the 2018 AMVCA.
Watching “Backup Wife”, I understand why so many people didn’t rate her performance. “Looking for Baami” which she acted opposite Femi Jacobs did her status as a performer better but it was also an Iroko TV show. The question for her to answer was whether she would fare well on the big screen of the cinema in the lead. The jury was out for her. Then “Sugar Rush” happened.

Produced by Jade Osiberu and directed by Kayode Kasum, Ademoye played the third girl of the title characters alongside Adesua Etomi and Bisola. She was one of the best performers in the show that resonated with many viewers but which was full of terrible acts and premises. The bad acts around Bimbo didn’t remove anything from her own performance in that it wasn’t made better because she was among stars who gave an inferior account of themselves in the movie. Her performance shone in spite of the bad acting that mitigated the movie.
We rarely say this here but Bimbo is one actor whose career has just begun in the comity of stars.
Bimbo Ademoye’s relationship
Bimbo Ademoye’s relationship is not worth the ink with which we boldened its heading. If her relationship becomes something worthwhile, you will not be the first to know if you depend on us to tell you because unlike you, it doesn’t keep us awake at night. Bimbo who says she is now used to people starring at her voluptuous body told Punch in 2018 that her dream man is a caring and intelligent man.
Since Nollywood and the normal world is full of men who seemingly pass these criteria and have a sweet mouth to back it up, we suspect that Bimbo Ademoye’s posture as a single girl who hasn’t been in a relationship since 2011 may not be the whole story.
